I have been tutoring students from around the world online since 2022 when I took the bold or foolhardy decision (I'll let you decide!) to leave a 30+ year career teaching mostly post-16 English and related courses in colleges in England to move to Portugal, where I am still based. 

My in-depth knowledge as both a subject- specialist English teacher and a previous examiner in A Level, GCSE and IB, as well as course management and leadership experience, provide my students with targeted guidance to strengthen their broad study skills and more targeted exam preparation, while the creative strategies I have always nurtured in the classroom ensure that lessons are stimulating and challenging - and usually in a good way! 

After building up experience in more recent years as an IB educator - including undertaking curriculum development work with the IBO - I love now being able to put all these skills together in my work with students tutoring 1-1 or in small groups. 

The majority of my clients enjoy regular weekly lessons with me to support their classroom studies. We agree in advance what topics/skills to focus on, and review regularly, adjusting plans if required to support with current school or college assignments.

Some students come to me especially to provide them with more robust teaching and course delivery when, for example, they are unable to attend school or do not have a subject-specialist teacher to support them.

Other clients come to me seeking development or enrichment in their English studies. I have supported a small group of Vietnamese students in preparatory studies for the IGCSE English (0500) through a course I designed for them to develop their skills of textual analysis, cultural engagement and independent learning skills. Some of these students are now studying IGCSE English Literature (0475) as an extra qualification or just to enhance their wider English studies.

And some students just want a short 'burst' of support to help them to get over particular 'hurdles', like a big writing assignment or mock exams. 

My teaching and educational background provides me with considerable flexibility when tutoring students and supporting them through this fast-paced time in their lives.
